Alright, let’s get down to it!

One mistake most new YouTubers make is focusing on the subscriber count.

Here’s the one thing you should know about your subscriber count: that number moves as the result of a well-run channel or lack thereof.

So, how do you run your channel well? I’m going to show you several ways to move that subscriber count in a positive direction.

But first, let’s talk about what number you should actually focus on to get 1000 subscribers on YouTube for free.

With all the analytics that YouTube provides, you can get lost in numbers, but there’s one metric that you have full control over and this is where you should focus your attention: video count.

Commit to making 100 videos.

If you can focus on that one goal and stop obsessing over your subscriber count, you will be on your way to a successful channel on YouTube.

Why 100 Videos?

Now that you’ve committed to making 100 videos, you can’t just create any old content or the same content 100 times.

The purpose of committing to create 100 videos is to improve with each new video you make.

Most of us creating on YouTube didn’t come into it with video editing skills or knowing about lighting. These are things we’ve learned along the way.

The beauty of YouTube and why I encourage everyone to make a channel is because you find out how to do all of those things on YouTube completely free.

In this video, I tell you everything you need to know about how to get 1000 subscribers on YouTube for free!

How to Get 1000 Subscribers on YouTube for Free

If you haven’t done it already, create your first video!

If you’ve already created some videos, then you’re ahead of the game.

3 areas to focus on improving during your 100 videos:

  1. Lighting
  2. Sound
  3. Stability

These areas can make or break your videos.

You want to make sure you have enough light for your video. There’s no need to invest in lighting when you’re just starting out. You can simply go outside or film by a window.

Having good audio for your video doesn’t mean going out and buying a fancy microphone, it means reducing the sound around you. If there’s barking dogs or traffic noise, try to move away from those sounds.

If your camera is all over the place while you’re filming, the viewing experience will be terrible. If you don’t have a tripod, prop your camera or phone on a table with some books or whatever you can find to stabilize the picture.

You don’t need a fancy camera either. Your smartphone is more than enough to get you moving toward that 1000-subscriber mark. I started out with my phone…and a lot of YouTubers start that way as well.

Fun Fact: There are some YouTubers who only film using their phone even after they see success with their channel. No shame in that game.

After you upload each video…

Watch the video and pick one aspect to improve.

Don’t try to fix everything at once. Striving for perfection here will complicate things and discourage you.

Your first videos will not be good, but by the time you get to the end of your 100 videos, you’ll be able to look back and see how far you’ve come.

Put out the best video you can and commit to making your next video better.

Make a schedule!

Decide how often you want to publish a new video and stick to that schedule no matter what. Consistency is key here.

Make sure your schedule is one that you can maintain. I believe in pushing yourself, but don’t make your schedule so strenuous that it’s unattainable.

That being said, I have a HUGE TIP that will help you make a lot more videos.

When I first started, I was using a green screen and creating a video for me took a lot of set up. This made it harder to be consistent because I couldn’t just leave my video background set up all the time.

So before I ever hit Record, I had about 20 steps I had to do. That is not the path to success, my friends!

Minimize the number of steps before you hit Record!

The way I did this was to create a dedicated area in my home where I could create videos with minimal setup.

Another BIG TIP that helped me make more videos was recording one take and editing out the mistakes.

When I first started, I would start, make a mistake, and start over, or I would stop recording when I messed up and make a new recording.

When I got done with my video, I had all of these files to edit together and it was a mess.

Keep the camera rolling the whole time and just edit out the mistakes. That way you only have one file to work with.

Your Video Must Be About Something

Your mindset should be what value you can deliver to your audience rather than what video you want to make.

You must understand who you are making videos for and what kind of videos they want to see.

Each video you create should have a clear topic and you should adhere to that topic for the duration of the video.
