How to Start a Comedy Channel on YouTube
If you can make people laugh, this might be the path of least resistance to success with YouTube. Have you considered starting a comedy channel on YouTube?
If so, then you’re in the right place. I had Yaron Shavit of Shavinism come on my channel and share 5 easy tips to get started.
That’s what I’ll be sharing with you in this article.
Comedy can seem like a genre that’s very hard to grow in because it tends to be generic. For this reason, all of the tips you hear about SEO for YouTube don’t apply to comedy.
It’s hard to make your comedy discoverable through common means like keywords and other SEO strategies.
That being said, here are 5 tips to help you grow a comedy channel on YouTube.
1. Make content that makes you laugh.
As creators, it’s easy to fall into a mode of self-doubt. That is something that can greatly hinder your creativity.
Here’s a general rule to keep in mind: if you find it funny, there are people out there who will also find it funny. Just put it out there.
Someone will show up who loves what you do.
2. Make thumbnails that tell the viewer, “This is going to be funny.”
Don’t be afraid to be a little more grotesque than you might with a normal YouTube channel.
You want your thumbnails to convey that your content is light and funny.
3. Collaborate as much as possible with as many people as possible.
Aside from the obvious benefit of collaboration where you have the opportunity to be exposed to a new audience, there are some other aspects that are also beneficial.
As a comedian, you know other comedians and actors that you can bring on your channel. This creates diversity and brings a different energy to your content.
This can be helpful to any channel, but especially a comedy channel.
When you collaborate, that person needs exposure just like you do, so they will promote the content just as hard. That’s powerful.
4. Use trending and relatable topics.
At the end of the day, YouTube is a search engine. You want people to find your channel.
Using trending and relatable topics increases your chances of getting included in a viral page like Unilad or ViralThread.
That increases your potential to grow your channel very quickly.
Keep trying and also submit your content to those channels. Unilad has a place on their website where you can submit videos to them.
5. Integrate your channel in your career.
This is very important. Wherever you go, you meet new people. Pitch your channel!
It only takes one person to believe in you.
Don’t be afraid to think about your career and your channel and how they work together.
That’s Gonna Do It
That’s it for these 5 tips. That’s great advice from Yaron. Apply it to your channel and you’ll see the difference.
